Better known as Whau. They have soft, serrated, heart-shaped foliage and white flowers that start to emerge in spring to early summer. These are then followed by the spiky fruit that look similar to Chestnut burr. Plant in a sunny position whee soils are fertile, moist but free-draining. Protect from frosts. A native, evergreen shrub.
Grows to betwwen 2.5m x 3m.
