A vigorous, upright growing native tree that is a natural hybrid between a Northern Rata and Pohutukawa. It has dark green foliage and produces clusters of rich scarlet flowers during December and January. Thrives in full sun in most types of dry soil that are free-draining. Hardy to coastal conditions and exposed locations, only tolerates light to moderate frosts. Protect from frost when young. Evergreen.
May grow to about 5m x 3m in 10 years.
